Insurance Coverage During Hurricane Season: What You Need
Living in the Panhandle means being prepared for hurricane seasons in a variety of ways. Prepping your home, having a plan, loading up on supplies and making sure your insurance coverage is in place. Hurricane insurance typically covers any wind or rain damage from a storm but often does not include flooding from storm surge.
For this reason, it’s best to purchase flood insurance to cover ANY water damage to a property. The cost associated with flood insurance is typically only a few hundred dollars a year and worth your peace of mind.
Although you can buy hurricane and flood insurance any time during the year, it’s best to do so prior to the season. If a storm is brewing in your area, you won’t be eligible to buy a new policy until it has passed. Also, it’s important to note that flood insurance takes 30 days to become effective, so you’ll want to buy it before the season begins.
